I have been known on occasion to say things like, "I think (fill in public figure here) should be taken out and shot." The fact is that I would never contemplate actually doing such a thing. I can hardly smash a spider in my house.

But the listener does not know this. For this reason, I try to confine such statements to my living room, among friends. It is best not to write anything on the Web that you don't want to see on the front page of the newspaper. If "they" think they need to find out who you are, it isn't that hard.

I think of e-mail, etc., in the same way as statements made in an airport security line. Don't even joke about it.
