The 100 websites most affected by viruses each have about 18,000 nasties to attack net users' computers, an internet security company says.

Simply visiting one of the "Top 100 Dirtiest" websites - without downloading or even clicking anything - could expose your computer to infection and put your personal information into the hands of criminals, anti-virus software company Norton Symantec said."

Any good suggestions?

Thanks for the inputs.

Just in case, how do I know and check if my computer has been infected due to previously visiting any of these web sites?

And what's the best way I can check and clean up my computer automatically and periodically? TIA!

Is windows defender a good enough firewall,anti-spyware ?
I am running Windows XP and I use Malicious Software Removal and Windows Defender. Both offer Quick (~10 minutes) and Full (~60 minutes or more) Scans. A Custom Scan option is also available. I run either one on a daily basis (usually in Quick Scan mode) and 2-3 times per week in Full Scan mode (when I'm away from the computer). Defender sometimes automatically starts in the background and I have not noticed a change in speed/surfing.

On a monthly basis I run Windows Live OneCare. All 3 are free and from Microsoft.

I also have a router with firewall.
