East or West, most parents, unless they are in dire straits, don't want any support from their kids. I didn't understand that until I had grown kids.

I don't know about you guys, but my dad was jealous when I started making 10x his best income and tried his best to harm me in various ways. They say you marry what you know, and my ex-wife was very similar in this respect. It's taken a long time to get them out of my life.

I promise to never do that to my kids, except my daughter who has promised to pay back $100K in education expenses if "going her own way" goes nowhere in 10 years. I'm not pushing her for university/college. I also hope she never has to think about that again! Most likely outcome is she will work at a shit job for a year then go to school.
