I gather it means respect "what is happening now, and don't lock yourself into a fixed view simply because price is at a certain level", eg. price is down a great deal and has paused, you think SELL, basing your decision solely on the fact that price is down, could be that major support has been reached, and other large weight sector components aren't down as sharply as the index. MSFT, IBM down dragging the indices, but financials (banks) aren't (20% group weight spread among banks, brokers, reits, ins.). That sort of thing.

Concur that the information Tony provides isn't helpful, and that his absence wouldn't be missed (I avoid his column). Doubt he would get the boot however.
