Today's CrossFit WOD

Although I don't really socialize in the gym apart from a few hellos and so on, I don't see anything wrong with the social component if it doesn't impede the workout in any way. It's the apparent one-upmanship and peer pressure together with a disregard for form and safety that I think makes it an accident waiting to happen.

Why are these people not using squat cages when doing squats? Are they insane?

that does nothing to build strength or muscle..ya place your body at risk for a limit deadlift..dumb

unless getting paid for that ego

It blows my mind how many people deadlift with a curved spine. It hurts my back just watching that clip.
 
I've never done burpees because they don't appeal to me. Occasionally, I see people at my gym doing them, but I have yet to see someone do the push-up part properly. They seem to phone that part in. I gather it is a cardio-type exercise, since you don't get the chance to work any particular muscle group to exhaustion or failure. Rather, it causes generalized fatigue/exhaustion.

I agree with your comment that CFers are concerned more about the numbers rather than the form, but there are also "exercises" that I don't think have much of a targeting effect on any particular muscle group. From what little I have seen and read of CF, there is little or no discipline. And I echo Baron's sentiment that there are two types of CFers: those who have already hurt themselves and those who will.
I was introduced to them in High School during football practice, then again in Marine Corps boot camp where they were lovingly referred to as Bends and MF'ers. Usually done in a sand pit, typically as punishment, while in close quarters to other guys while getting kicked in the face. :vomit: I maintain it's a good cardio type exercise, and helps with general co-ordination, but I'm too damn old to do that crazy stuff now.
