As to why people vote the way they do you can start by asking a black man who voted for Biden, the guy who wrote the fucking bill that lead to the imprisonment of their "brothers". Maybe you can ask the Sanders supporter why they watch the DNC collude and conspire to fuck their guy out of the nomination not once, but twice and then still vote democratic.
