Dear All,
How do you tithe on your earnings in the market?
The way I'm trading, my money is always vested in something. I do not sell out or cover; I reverse positions. If I think that an asset will increase in value, I go long; decrease, short. Example: if I'm long 500 shares of IBM, and think it's going to plunge, I sell 1000. This closes my long position of 500 shares, and opens a short of 500.
The point is that my stake is always working for me. I have a liquidation value, but I'm never out of the market, and so its hard to determine exactly what my earnings are--and hard to determine the Lord's cut.
Maybe when I reverse a position, track how much profit I've made on the closing/covering part of the trade? But how do I work losses in? Perhaps liquidate 10% of my paper profits at the end of the month? This presents an accounting problem.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thx, Keith
