The US already lost dominance to China. It's that most haven't realized it yet.

Waiting for the fireworks to go off when the Taiwan theatre opens in addition to the current war in Europe. Now I wish I hadn't given away all my old People's General games.

China's time will come. However, even if we are in decline, it takes decades, if not centuries to change world order.

Also, I am old enough to remember similar conversation in the 1980/90 regarding Japan. many will say this time is different but I don't think so.

Per capita is kind of misleading. Comparing to China's 1.4B, we need to include Canada, Mexico, Central America and perhaps even some South America countries to make up 1.4B, then we can compare per capita. China's middle class, a much smaller percentage than the US, but likely several hundred millions.

China has managed to pull hundreds of millions of people out of poverty thanks to its opening to the world in 1978 and thanks to the efforts of the global community to create the positive environment to make this all happen. In 45 years over 300 million Chinese are now considered middle class, almost the entire US population. It's the greatest rise in human welfare in the world's history. One may vehemently disagree with its political dictatorship, but the achievement is undeniable.

I'm old enough to remember how poor China was back in the 70s and much of the 80s. Sometime in the late 90s, I got into a heated argument with fellow Chinese netizens about IP theft. They all rationalized the theft by saying, "What other options do we have? We're poor and destitute." Well, they're still poor and their actions worse than destitute even as the second largest economy IMO.

Anyway, I admit the US is in an inevitable decline. But that doesn't give China a free pass. I would say Japan has an upper hand than China in the Far East. However, I don't think it will be any one nation that will replace the US, but rather a multiple countries just like in the aftermath of the Roman empire.

Humanity is about dominance unless you are so irrelevant or weak that you can’t play. Then you ally yourself with the biggest guy who will take you to be on the winning side by association.
