Totally agree with your point. People will keep telling you about new tools and methods, but sticking to the traditional method of trading is what can make you a good trader.

Go watch some Youtube channels on how to trade. "Trading with Rayner", "UKSpreadbetting" ,"Chat With Traders" and "Day Trading Addict" are some I follow.
Start small at first. My mistake is that I started big. If you start small you will lose small and at the start you are going to make a lot of mistakes no matter how smart or if you think you know everything after reading a book or two. Very few are profitable from the get go. Most take several years to be profitable, the guy who started "Day Trading Addict" said it took him 8 years to be profitable. I would guess average is 2-4 as most drop out in 1 or 2 years, if you survive after 2 years and persist, pretty high chance you will be profitable.
Keep thinking about your trades. What you did wrong? What you did right? For me I question everything even if people say doing this is right, I don't take it for granted. I want to understand what makes it right or could they possibly be mistaken? You have to go deep to understand the logic and to be successful.
Do more of the right and eliminate the wrongs. Keep repeating the process as you have new enlightenment in your journey and you will get to as close as a perfect trader as you can be which suits your personality and lifestyle.
i am a good trader now , because i am trading in demo with more focus . using all my strategies in there with high leverage.
