Absolutely you should have concerns. If your trading platform is doing something that seems out-of-whack during your trial, then you had best get on the horn with the developer and address the issues with the dev directly. Speaking to peeps here will not help you when you have real money on the line. Ninja, like any other complicated software package, is bound to have quirks and idiosyncrasies. You just need to learn how to work within it's framework.

Is NT poorly written? That is a matter of perspective... No, it is as good as it gets for what you receive. Does the software have bugs? Sure it does, like everything else out there. Speak with Ninjasupport and they should be able to help you.
 
Hello All,
when I contacted NT, I explained my situation pretty much the same as I did here, and here is their response.

To resolve this issue please sync your PC clock with the steps I have provided below.

  • Close NinjaTrader
  • Right click on your time->Adjust Date/Time
  • Select Additional date, time & regional settings
  • Select Set the time and date
  • Internet Time tab
  • Change settings
  • Select "time.nist.gov" from the drop down
  • Update now
  • Open NinjaTrader
I don't know exactly what this means,when they say, " to resolve this issue", but that makes me think that this might not be normal with NT. I will follow their instructions and monitor the charts for a few days, to see if there is a change. I will also contact NT to see if the next candle should start at the beginning of the minute.
If anyone is curious, I could post NT's responses, and my observations hear later next week

I agree that I need to be more familiar with NT framework. Until my concerns are dealt with, I won't trade. I am happy to watch the live charts until then.
 
beerntrading is most likely correct. I don't trade futures but in equities even the most liquid symbols can go awhile without a trade. Once you get out of the most liquid symbols you can go for a long time without a trade, especially in the middle of the day. You just need to know how your platform handles it.

Lots of people use and like NinjaTrader. All platforms seem to have their "issues".

Hi dholliday,

I did as I was advised by NT, and it did make a difference. Instead of 10-13 sec delays, I am now averaging 1 sec delays. I still will want to monitor it for a few days next week, and ask NT a few more questions before I start trading. All this was happening on the Russel 2000 charts, and I realize that the 2000 is not as liquid as the Es, etc... so i will watch other markets next week and see if it is isolated to the 2000 or not.

I do appreciate all the responses.

Find a really illiquid instrument to watch. That will increase your chances of a long gap between trades as the clock ticks over.
