Tim Walz’s past DUI arrest for driving 96 mph in a 55 zone comes back to haunt VP pick

No opening Zero Brains but this has been in actual news elsewhere.

"Vice President Kamala Harris correctly characterized Walz’s time in Congress when introducing her running mate in Philadelphia, calling him “the top Democrat on the Veterans Committee.”

It was her campaign, however, that erred.

The statement in question reads, “after 24 years of military service, Governor Walz retired in 2005 and ran for Congress, where he chaired Veterans Affairs and was a tireless advocate for our men and women in uniform — and as Vice President of the United States he will continue to be a relentless champion for our veterans and military families.”

It was printed in RealClearPolitics, NBC News, and numerous other outlets, further raising the ire of Republicans who already claim that Walz has misrepresented his record. A Harris aide told RCP Thursday morning that the error “was an innocent mistake” made by staff.

“Governor Walz was ranking member/top Democrat on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs,” a spokesman for the Harris campaign said, for the 115th Congress between 2017 and 2018.
"

That's right, much of what appears in ZH eventually ends up in other outlets.

No.... It's really not like the way that in the Men in Black movies, the National Enquirer is the best investigative journalism on Earth.

@ipatent

You might find this tweet interesting where Zaman observes that Tim has become a target by knowing somebody who sympathizes with the Palestinians.

Hard to see so extracted text:

Well, here they go again!

Whenever the MAGA camp and their allies are flailing, they look for a way to divide and
distract people by scapegoating a local Muslim. And today it looks like they've chosen
me.

Unfortunately, the right wing blog swamp is trying to smear Governor Tim Walz by using
me. My "crime" is that I am Muslim and 1 publicly express my solidarity with the
Palestinian people. Let's get one thing straight: this has nothing do with Governor Walz.

If someone asks me about this, here's what Il'm going to say: "When politicians have
nothing to offer, they resort to this tactic of division and distraction."' We see this time
after time. It's a ugly ploy to get votes. We're tired of it. We should callit for what it is
and focus on our future.

If someone asks you about this or you see them try this again - with me or anyone else
-don't feed it.

-
am not going to feed this narrative. But I wanted to reach out to let you know what is
happening.

When MAGA groups push these narratives, we should ask them for their plan for our
kids, their plan for our healthcare, their plan for our voting rights. The truth is they don't
have answers to these questions. Not ones that voters like, anyway.

Here in Minnesota, we have learned to reject this type of hateful politics and we are
striving to make Minnesota the best state for people of all faiths, Muslim, Jewish,
Christians, to raise our families. That is the future that I and our Muslim community in
Minnesota are working towards.

And, yes, grounded in my faith, my sense of justice and my commitment to the dignity of
all people, I will also continue to fiercely advocate for the people, families, and loved
ones of Palestine
