For many years Democrats controlled Congress and the presidency... and did not address the problem either.

This is because the corporate interests who lobby and fund both parties want to be sure nothing is done to tighten hiring rules that would make corporations, owners, and farmers responsible for their knowingly hiring illegal immigrants --- these employers like cheap labor. And both parties have winked at this problem for a long time.

But Democrats aren't making this their core issue, Republicans are.

Immigration is the most important problem for all of you Republicans in every poll, why should Democrats worry about what the Republican voters want.

You can blame corporate interests and what not, the fact is that this is about money and for Republicans, money comes first and life/liberty/family second. Corporate interests dont want a trade war either, that didnt stop Trump from starting it but on this issue which doesn't impact the big corporations much, he doesn't want to do anything?

It should be -- "if Congress were actually serious about doing something about illegal immigration, fine and imprison employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants $100,000 per illegal employee and 5 years of prison."

This is a problem with both parties.

All employers should be required to use E-Verify and do their best to validate identity with picture id. Many illegals will stick use "borrowed" SSNs -- that will fool a legitimate employer. There has to be some way of improving this check system by employers to reduce this problem.

Majority of Congress is liberal including lots of RINO liberals on the Republican side. You can see them oppose President Trump on his efforts to curb illegal immigration! That is why we need more Conservative Republicans in the mold of Ted Cruz and Mark Meadows. That is the only way we can change things! Elect more conservatives and RINO liberals will have to support tough immigration laws or get voted out of office!

The U.S. District Attorney’s Office brought charges against U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter and his wife, Margaret Hunter, Tuesday for years of alleged campaign fund misuse, in which the couple is accused of using more than $250,000 in campaign contributions to pay for family trips to Italy, golf outings and dental work, among others.

Duncan Hunter’s attorney, Gregory A. Vega, has called the indictment politically motivated, stating there was pressure to wrap up the investigation before the general election in November.

Trump's very first commutation was to a guy who has I recall around 86 counts of bank fraud.

This was the guy running the largest Kosher meat packing plant in the US. Agriprocessors in Iowa (lots of pretty white girls to murder in Iowa I expect?). Mostly republicans but a few dems pushed for his commutation. Trump had a very large Israel supporting campaign donor to repay etc.

Why did he have so many counts of bank fraud? Because he had created a scheme to hide cash payments to his huge numbers of undocumented workers. Some child workers.

Business looking after it's own interests, not especially the left or right want cheap undocumented labor and want reform efforts like e-Verify to be as slow and buggy as possible.
