Seems there may have been more to this than just bad-trading/investing gone-wrong.

Wouldn't be surprised if Mafioso is involved, etc. Kinda like how Dr. Ruja Ignatova is not just on the run (on top-10 FBI wanted list), but also has the Mafia's henchmen after her too- and they've murdered more than one of her accomplices so far.
