It's one thing if you can stomach the loss or getting hit for 100 grand isn't a big thing. But I won't beat a dead horse on what previous posters have already said.

As far as holding on and getting out, consider another scenario.

April 23, 2004. Your short OSIP May 45 calls. Then it's May 04 expiry.

Go pull up a chart, you have no exits.

My example says all.
