The whole reason Americans broadcasters speak without accents is because we have dentists. Prior to dentists you had to have a stiff upper lip and a contrived way of pronoucing words.

In conclusion. The proper way to pronounce English is the way American broadcasters (and Peter Jennings) speak/spoke.

what is all this crap about dentists? have you never been to the uk?

we do have dentists. we also have a FREE health service! this means that if someone gets run over in the street, they are rushed to hospital and fixed up for nothing. in the usa, i understand the ambulance driver checks you have a wallet first. if you dont, he ditches you somewhere. and you call yourselves a civilised country!!!

i really do think you yanks should give me some more respect you know. after all, i am english, and if it wasnt for us english, where would you yanks be? you'd all still be in ireland or mexico picking spuds.

yes, I have been to england multiple times. Most of my visits were in the 80s. Back then the need for dental work even among managers at financial concerns was striking.

Now apparently you do have dentists -- so I predict your accents will atrophy. And you will hence be almost as great a people as we.

Yeah Oasis was different. But in their case, their label, (I think it was Sony) hyped them for the world market. I guarantee part of the preparation for the massive promotion effort was some work at the dentist (if needed, and if it were not needed then their exception still proves the point.)

sure we pay for the health service out of taxes, but we pay a lower tax rate than the usa and a lot of europe (where i admit the health service is better than the uk)
