How could Trump have any confidence in an agency that told Bush to invade Iraq because they had weapons of mass destruction? Or maybe they just lied to Bush? You explain it.

Thirteen years ago, the intelligence community concluded in a 93-page classified document used to justify the invasion of Iraq that it lacked "specific information" on "many key aspects" of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs.

But that's not what top Bush administration officials said during their campaign to sell the war to the American public. Those officials, citing the same classified document, asserted with no uncertainty that Iraq was actively pursuing nuclear weapons, concealing a vast chemical and biological weapons arsenal, and posing an immediate and grave threat to US national security.

Congress eventually concluded that the Bush administration had "overstated" its dire warnings about the Iraqi threat, and that the administration's claims about Iraq's WMD program were "not supported by the underlying intelligence reporting." But that underlying intelligence reporting — contained in the so-called National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) that was used to justify the invasion — has remained shrouded in mystery until now.

The Bush admin said there were wmd and a program in Iraq to make more.

The left has said infinitum that there were no wmd's in Iraq.

Both were wrong.

There were wmd, but there was no program discovered to make more of them.

When the NYTimes revealed that there were, after all, wmd's in Iraq, the left made the absurd claim that those were just old ones, and there were no new ones, as if old wmd's aren't dangerous or something. And then pretended, once again, ridiculously, that they were vindicated.
 
Sadly, I do believe that our Intel agencies have been terribly corrupted, especially and specifically at the leadership positions. The grunts in the field are doing their level best, but as per usual, the "bosses' have their personal agenda.
Unfortunately this is not a problem easily solved. It's not like you can just go in and give'em all pink slips. They know all the dirty secrets and where the bodies are buried, and they have already demonstrated they care nothing about national security. They'll happily burn down the house just to get even. Things are going to be dicey moving forward. Dangerous world out there and we're not even close to ready for modern day warfare.
