This is what That dirty word "Nationalism" looks like

I would just like to remind you that America is a republic and in a republic the rights of the minority are protected from the will of the majority. This is our ideal as Americans because it promotes individual freedom and thinking.

Nationalism is a total mob mentality that seeks to rule over the minority. This can take the form in racial, religious, economic and civil oppression.

Nationalism is a danger to the American way of life.

Holy crap, someone from the left understands a republic. Please explain this to Tony.

I would like to remind certain constitutional rights are protected for all Americans.

Specifically in America we have majority rule by states... save for constitutionally protected rights.

The cake baker was protected from a bullying government so that all American's rights were protected even though he was surely part of the largest religious group and the bullies were bullying for a minority class.

We are a republic with constitutional rights shared by all.
Frequently majority rule wins as it should in our system.

You mean like if a bunch of monopolists got together and decided to shut out certain customers and users because of their political views? And by doing so, took away their means of making a living?

Yes, that would be very wrong and the sort of thing we expect our government to protect us against.

Excessive nationalism can be counter-productive. The kind that gets you sucked into pointless wars just so you can rule over others.

What is being called "nationalism" here however, as if it is akin to Nazism, is demanding that our borders be secured against an ongoing invasion and our immigration laws enforced. Those are hardly extreme demands, and invaders and border jumpers have no legitimate expectation that we just turn a blind eye to them.

You sound like you want to socialize the Internet. Ironic.

What about the flip side, do platform providers have a responsibility to ensure the content users post is actually true and fact based?

Climate change is a great example of an issue that has gotten corrupted by the right wing media and has caused harm to us all. Instead of just arguing that we are causing the earth to change with pollution, the right wing is just denying that it happens at all and it uses social media to spread this lie.

What about vaccines? There’s a bipartisan issue where kooks from both sides love to spread false information that may result in dangerous behavior on social media.

Two good examples of issues social media platforms are being used to promote false and misleading agenda driven campaigns.

And you advocate that socia media platforms don’t have a responsibility to their users to protect them from these campaigns. That’s just crazy.

How about you open a store and give anti gun people a seat at the sales counter. Does that sound fair?
