The USA seems to lack ability to even quarantine parts of the country. Which is less than Italy tried to do several weeks ago.

So that's not a good sign.

I simply said we aren't exactly just doing nothing.

There's nothing we can do at this point...we didn't act like China, we didn't act like S. Korea, we didn't act like Japan, and quarantines are only effective if >80% of people follow them. At this point we've just gotta resign to the fact all hospitals will be over run and we'll have to learn the lesson the hard way through the piling body count. That or the weather puts a dent in things as some pre-preliminary data suggests.

Who knows, perhaps we stop chastising and mocking science & elect leaders that respect it? LOL, who am I kidding, our education system is even more fucked than our healthcare.

I agree with almost everything you say about the education system. However, it is, in layman's terms, an A to B fallacy. It isn't that the education system is that screwed up. We have plenty of intelligent, well-educated people. The problem is that the stupid people far outnumber the smart people. They don't want to get educated, or if they do, they want to study underwater basket weaving and bemoan student debt. The system works for those that utilize correctly.

100% agree however that the school from K-12 is indeed absolutely "bollocked" as the Brits would say. They invest little to nothing during those times, which is probably why so many people don't value getting a good education. Our universities are some of the best only because we are instant gratification centric. Alumni and gov'ts spend more/donate more to universities than K-12. Professors get more respect than K-12 teachers. They get paid better too.

In short, it isn't the system that is bollocked, it is the people. Bernie Sanders rode an antithetical wave to Trump, stirring the discontent of millennials who refuse or don't have the brains to study things that matter. They elect people who will placate them.
 
The current situation is quite panicking and disturbing, I know. But all we can do right now is be safe and hope for the economy to stabilize again.
 
There are lots of things what we can do, individually. Get your immune system in the possibly best shape and try to push out the inevitable of getting the virus as far in time as possible. For example if you are an over weight smoker, this is the best time to quit and start exercising. 4-6 weeks could make a huge difference, because lungs do recover up to a point even after years of smoking. Some things like asthma or diabetes are harder or impossible to mitigate, but the average person can do their best by:

1. Get the supplements advised in the Health section.
2. Get a BCG vaccination if possible.
3. Don't be fat or a smoker.
4. Push out your likely infection as far as possible by distancing yourself.

Remember, thats cases which need hospital treatment, not over all population, so basically just the old / sick.

Also, a lot of those where dying anyway and just happened to have the virus making it seem a whole lot worse, the virus was not a part in there death, just normal day to day deaths.
