I think we would all be shocked to know the true number of people that were infected and never got tested. They will hopefully be immune. I'm pretty sure this includes myself.

I don't know in the States, but in Europe they're underreporting the dead. Not due to some dark conspiracy, but because they're overrun so they only count the cases of people who die in hospitals after getting tested. In France and Spain for instance, based on yearly statistics, they have an extra couple of hundred of people dying daily at home or in care centers that are not being counted because at the moment they lack the resources to conduct full autopsies. So they expect they will have to add a couple of thousand casualties.

It defies belief that the rest of the world has already 10 times more casualties than China, when we had a couple of months to prepare for this.

How's that? As of 4 pm yesterday, the NYC had 26,697 cases that resulted in 450 deaths. That's consistent with the Chinese numbers, if anything it's a little lower.

Probably there is not enough medical resources.

So far New York City has adequate medical resource at the present for the sick, but it will be reach the peak limit in next couple days due to growing exponential number of people seeking help in the hospital everyday. The new cases in the city have gone almost double every couple days on average.

After all the medical resources exhaust in the next couple days, the death rate will spike dramatically. There is simply not enough resource in the city to meet the help. They will die of acute respiratory failure without the ventilators.

Fortunately, the city has been locked down. It is sort of flatten the curve a bit. The arrival of the Navy hospital ship from Virginia on Monday and 400 army medics will increase the capacity a bit, but not a lot.

Yes, and if the virus is successfully staved off but they die of related pneumonia or sepsis they'll be counted as those instead of the virus. They need to rush the antibody tests so we can get better numbers. Though perhaps its better we don't know in some ways.

Australia has been ahead of the curve in terms of response. The CDC has repeatedly said the heat does not kill the virus. Australia has been stockpiling and preparing their country since February. It's incredible what listening to your doctors will do!
