short cover will always be a component, there is never a rally that is pure with or without short cover... it's just the component is bigger during a correction like this.
short cover is usually more urgent in terms of price action, because fear is an emotion 3X stronger than greed...
so like the recent tsla rise, that is short cover, because very few are greedy enough to chase it like that.
Using your example, I don't see any short covering of the SP500, QQQ, DIA....?
well the last 10 minutes have this action, some shorts don't want to hold over the weekend...
it doesn't mean much at this point.... but longer term who cares... once them boys done scooping it will be new high anyways.

also another important point - may thru oct of 2019 we had a long consolidation, that's a shake period where them boys collected a lot of chips to pull up since October.... this correction they won't push the price back down that consolidation zone because them dumb money who got shaken out during that period been kicking themselves for so many months and my boys won't let them buy back in..
this shake is really about them luck dumb bastards who happened to catch the rally since October and have been dreaming about unlimited riches forever, so those people need to be shaken off the rally train.
but me boys been looking for a reason for a while, fundamentals are too good, bad news are hard to come by.
read thru all my analysis again... them decided let's just re-cook the story on 1/24-1/27 that the market already ignored once, and the A-shares action already confirmed it's nothing burger..
so virus story it is.
it's so bogus... in a few weeks when we get to new high then all them pundits will come out and say I told you so...
in hind sight it's always woulda shoulda.....
a true master can see thru the BS like RIGHT NOW and accumulate... that's what separates the wonnabees from the true masters.
and for those folks who been empty handed and been kicking themselves for years.... you have to buy NOW.... there won't be another chance for a long long time....

That's the difference between a planned trade +planned investment;
that's a good goal never let a trade profit turn into a loss. I cut a loss on a piece of real estate once , in that case did not have to; but some sub divisions have too much supply/overhead supply. I went back + did the math on it+ never regret doing that; average market time was 3-6 months.
And with single stocks like DAL, LEH, BSC that went bankrupt ,better safe than sorry.
I am dumb but please don't call me names.
