This is a LOT of computer for $600... looking for a new trading rig or upgrade?

When there is a good deal on something, usually doesn't last long.
I don't recall. Just came across it.
Tiger Direct and Newegg are good places to look for used HP workstations like this. I've always bought Dell ones, but in recent years they have not had such good bargains. Another place to look is Dell Financial Services. They sell off-lease units with 90-day warranty. Not as good as they used to be about bargains in general, but sometimes they still have really good deals. I was going to buy one from DFS... a Dell T5810 workstation. Had 32GB of ECC RAM, 2x 500GB SSDs and a Quadro 5000 video card... all for $499.... but while I "contemplated", somebody beat me to it. (The RAM alone was worth ~$400) In comparison.... when I didn't get that T5810 from DFS, I bought a T5820 Workstation from Dell outlet. To its credit, it is new, comes with a 3-year warranty, and has a necessary 4-port UHD video card (costs~$300)... but it's a lesser computer. 8GB ECC RAM, 1x 500 GB spinner drive, and a CPU about 1/2 as powerful as the one in the HP deal, though strong enough for my use. The T5820 was ~$955. (The T5820 also has a "cool" aspect. It's a more modern kind of machine. All 5 of its PCIE slots are x16 (not all wired for 16 lanes, of course), and it's nearly all "modular"... even the PSU. All (8) of the Type-A USB ports are v3.1 and it has 2x, Type-C. There are 4 SATA drive bays that are hot swapable like the rack mounts in "real" computers... +2 slots for NVMe drives. All in all, rather "leading edge" for now in its class and price in desktops. I guess maybe that's worth something extra. Can be configured to house 28TB of data... just in case you're really into porn.

I have an old HP Z620 with 64GB RAM and E5-2670 that I bought for under $900 about 5 years ago, and it runs non-stop. The off-lease deals are cyclical and sometimes are sizeable, most times are not. Also, you have to research the models in advance, e.g. mine has a certain BIOS x Boot Block dates that won't allow me to upgrade to v3 of the Xeons. When the supply is massive, the price line drops like a rock. Be patient.

The case is very old but the specs are decent I'm guessing? I'm looking for a backup desktop which I'll use to run TOS and Ninjatrader. I might use R-Trader Pro as a backup to Ninjatrader. Thoughts?
I'll be able to install win10 later so having win7 is not an issue.

Wouldn't bet on your being able to install W10 on a T3500. Dell did not provide drivers for it.
