This "edge" stuff

I am loving this.

Apparently an edge is just about anything you hosers can think of.

This has to rank as one of the best comedy threads on ET.

"My edge is when I comb my hair and get the part straight."

"Oh yeah, Well my edge is when I shave without cutting myself."

"Oh Yeah, well my edge is when I put on my best jockey shorts"

"Thats nothing, my edge is when I drink a Starbucks Chai Latte"

Oh yeah babe

You folks have some ass kicking edge, thats for sure

Steve

Sad but true Steve 46, sad but true.
It is yet another buzz word, that will distract you from trading, but then I would rename this forum "Elite Distraction" or "Elite BS"

Acrary's edge testing is no different to overfitting efficiency testing ;-)

The higher the historical pct numbers the worst the real time results are...

You get the picture

:D

I dunno 'bout that. While I haven't had the time--yet--to digest the details of some of the more extensive posts from him, there are a lot of folks very impressed with his methodology for determining advantages.
Again, I am so new at some of these aspects, so time will only tell how well it sits with me. Just that I have read enough to suspect he's onto some good stuff.

Quote from man:

btw are you guys aware of the fact that each and every strategy will go bancrupt? it is just a matter of time until that black swan comes and gets your system out. it might be in five, ten or a thousand years, but finally you are wiped out. we actually considered once to make the expected time until death our major asset allocation tool.

(hence the thing is in essence a VaR, but "timeUntilDeath" adds some drama, doesn't it?)

Perhaps this is true with undercapitalization. With the proper capital, there is no way that this blanket statement can be true. The only true edge in trading is capital and the management thereof.

Quote from nononsense:

does Jack have an edge?

It's possible if he is using his capital wisely and not overextending. It's by no means assured. He needs to have capital and also not overextend.
