This crisis has taught us the true cost of doing business with China

I agree to be more self-sufficient for important products. But I disagreed with your point on diversification. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. Either you believe in a free model of capitalism where the law of comparative advantage applies (=each nation produces what they are best at producing) or you don't. You can't have it both ways.

I am independent btw, have my own opinion.
Are you against we should produce important drugs here in US?

Are you investing only in one company all your money. The same with China, we have Vietnam, other South Asian country good to invest. Why should we invest in communist China all the “eggs in one nest”. Is CCP a good business partner? Why we do not diversify ours outsource to set of countries instead a big one and not trusted partner. Would you personally start your business with partner who lies you. Some businesses should come back to US. See above.

But you do love your 600 dollar mobile phone instead of having to pay 2000 made in upstate New York right? Or your 10ndollar t-shirts instead of paying 40 or 50, made by American cotton and put together by American workers (um, I meant Mexican low income guest workers). I think unless we first make a decision that we want to consume made in America and also pay for it we have given up the right to bitch about Chinese sweat shops. We directly enabled sweat shops in China via Apple and Co.

And I don't remember when we ever adhered as sovereign nation to foreign demands how to run our government and society. So, whether someone harvests organs or not is completely irrelevant as it's not within our sovereign reign. We can disagree with it but that's as far as it goes. Plus perhaps we want to first work on our track record, because our historic record does not look clean by any measure...

Bottomline is time to move factories away from China.

It is misusing the billions that it makes from exporting to US and EU. I also forgot, China sponsors terrorists regime like that in Pakistan and North Korea and giving them more advanced nuclear know hows. It is building islands in international waters. It is inciting communist type guerrillas in both Asia and Africa.

Time to contain China for the good of the world.

or...time to bail from the West, who's grown fat, lazy, and dumb, & elected useless leaders who will let a contagion decimate the economy. Hell, maybe double down on Asia, being that they'll come out of this ahead.

Time to contain China before China contains you !!

Don't force into a "I told you so scenario".

Diversifying outsourcing locations doesn't solve the current crisis of supply chains:

1. When you ban travel outside the US.

2. When China controls the economy of all the low cost locations which is clearly their strategy of One Belt One Road. The whole idea of the concept is to control the commerce of all those countries. Once established, US is at their mercy.

3. Even within the US, once they control our food supplies, like Smithfield, we have problem.

It is like a chess game but past US presidents seemed unaware of it and ignored this potential threat. I give Trump credit for seeing this and now it seems to be a chess game between Trump and Xi, until Trump loses the election and it will be back to business as usual, at their mercy.

1. If a country didn't do business with China, they still got the virus, so article is stupid.

2. If virus came from a wet market it could have come from any other Asian market. Article is still stupid.
You always get directly to the real issues.
