Let me elaborate on my answer Buy1Sell2. To RN's point, of course the institutions rule the roost. The problem I have with the concept of "they" is it gives a trader an excuse to be the victim.

I believe that it is ok to possess a healthy dose of skepticism when viewing all of the potential "influences" on these markets...but at the same time, it cannot be used as an excuse for poor decision making. There is no question that curious things occur in these markets at opportune times and I believe that a certain amount of "street smarts" is required to trade this stuff...
