Quote from Ricter:
Fair enough.
Democracy: the worst system there is, except for... (you know the rest).
I'm ok with a republic, but it would have to be me who decides who gets to speak and vote. Otherwise, we'll have to settle for a mere democracy.Quote from wjk:
Do we live in a democracy or a republic? There is a difference, as you know.
Back to the thread. Do you want to be in charge of your own life or have someone else in charge, a politician(s) no less?
I have no problem with limited gov. I do have a problem with politicians like bloomberg acting like a nanny. He doesn't know what's best for you or me, he just thinks he does. And he's not alone in the political world. That was my original point.

As to your original point, I don't think anyone but the sugar lobby thinks (well, says) sugar is good for you. So to them, Bloomberg does know better.
Quote from wjk:
And this guy calls himself a Republican?
I'm willing to accept the character-centered approach to problem solving as far as it can be reasonably employed.Quote from wjk:
Well, refined sugar is something I avoid, along with many other items. But I like being the one to make those decisions. I've said before, and I'll say again...use education in these matters, not force of law.
Quote from CaptainObvious:
Bloomberg is a wanna'be tyrant who is full of himself and his own ideas. He is the kind of guy who would send millions of people to death camps, all for the greater good don't ya' know. There is no better example than he of why the Founders gave us the 2nd ammendment in the first place.
