You know, we can't go back to the 50's. What if due to mechanization, robots, whatever... we just don't need that many workers? You don't need farm labor. You don't need a lot of people to manufacture things. There are not enough jobs in the traditional sense.

Guaranteed personal income is becoming a talking point in European elections for exactly that reason - the elimination of huge swaths of the labor force due to automation and implementation of AI etc.

That's really the only solution. And it's economic utopia, really. Nobody works. The robots do everything for us. We collect a paycheck and spend it on whatever we like. Of course, it will never turn out like that. Human nature etc.
