I understand quite well

Cashiers are paid to collect money from patrons walking out the door and make reasonable but safe attempt's to prevent theft,jumping into the middle of a mob trying to prevent theft isnt part of a cashiers job description dumb ass

you could keep a couple basketballs behind the counter and when the shtf just lob them out into the crowd in the store.
