For all you deadbeats who feel like the government should save you from the loans that you agreed to pay back, I have a student loan forgiveness plan for you.

Each month pay back the interest accrued and a portion of the principle. Sooner or later, your balance will drop to zero.

Oddly just after expending too much effort writing OK boomer before, in a family WhatsApp group somebody mentioned a letter sent to my great great grandparents from the order of nuns my great grandaunt was a member of. She died in her 40s and the nuns were requesting partial compensation for her university education costs as she was expected to teach many more years.

Apparently the reply was that the family had paid for her university (Cambridge) and they could get bent (in the parlance of the time). Anyway, the notion of a lifetime of debt if you take on a low paying but essential job is not new.
