The National Archives’ Important Role When the Presidency Changes Hands
Throughout the fall and winter of 2016, the National Archives staff has been working with the White House staff to provide for the orderly transfer of records while assuring that the records necessary to conduct the country’s business remain accessible.

In addition to managing the presidential records created in the White House, the National Archives has the responsibility to assist each of the executive branch departments and agencies in managing their records. At the end of an administration, these agencies face records management challenges as senior political appointees leave the agency.

Today, it is clear that the records of senior officials are official government records; however, this was not always the case. The records of many past cabinet secretaries are housed in the Library of Congress, in academic libraries, and in private collections.

On another note, there has been a claim that a statement went out from the GSA that clarified;

However, I have been unable to locate the source publication other than citations to the above statement.

It was NARA who demanded the documents back, Trump could have given them back if he didn't know what was taken. This excuse doesn't pass the smell test especially since Trump now claims that he declassified the documents.

Former President Donald Trump faces a felony charge, a source told CBS News on Saturday. A person familiar with the matter told CBS News that Trump is being charged with falsifying business records in the first degree, a felony in New York state.

The charge stems from alleged hush money paid in 2016 to adult film star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence regarding an affair she claimed to have had with Trump. The indictment handed up by a New York grand jury remains sealed, so the details of the charge are not immediately available.

Trump is the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.

The former president is expected to be arraigned before Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday, two sources familiar with the matter told CBS News. The indictment would be read to him at that time.

In total, there are approximately 30 counts in the indictment, two sources confirmed to CBS News on Friday.

In a statement responding to news of his indictment, the former president called it "Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history," and accused Democrats of "weaponizing our justice system to punish a political opponent, who just so happens to be a President of the United States."

Two Trump attorneys, Joseph Tacopina and Susan Necheles, issued a statement saying that the former president "did not commit any crime" and vowed to "vigorously fight this political prosecution in Court."

Prosecutors did not inform Necheles and Tacopina of the charge, they told CBS News.

You obviously have not forgotten. Lol.

I had grown disillusioned with Biden's AG appointment and telegraphing "just let leave it alone" with all things Trump up to that point (having campaigned on going after him). This hearing was a bunch of grandstanding if I recall until she steered it into the obvious direction of "follow the money".

Took a while for DOJ/WH to get a clue and appoint Jack Smith for the fed cases & GA to follow the lead.

I actually had forgotten but you reminded me w/the post
