Maybe not for us posting here, but its a problem for a lot of people now. Digital nomads for one; folks that sell everything and take a couple years off to cruise the country in an RV. And there are a lot of Millennial's out there that don't live in their parent's basement, because their parents kicked them out or the parents are in just as bad of shape as their kids are.
Lets face it, you can't do anything without a govt ID now. And to get one of those, you need an "official" residence. You can't open a bank account, you can't see a doctor or a dentist, you can't get a PO Box, you can't get a privately run PO Box type thing... you can't even join Planet Fitness for god sake. I know all this because I know first hand a few musician types, that can't do sh*t because they go from girlfriend to girlfriend and never have a lease or bills or anything like that. They have to go to these check cashing operations to get debit cards they get ripped-off beyond belief.
I mean I know its only a small percentage of people out there, but these are real people with real lives. For them it means everything. They are no less of a person than you or I. And the thing is, these numbers are growing.. once you're homeless, its impossible to dig yourself out. Everything just snowballs. I mentioned Planet Fitness, because one cat had a Planet Fitness membership that he used to take showers in the morning. He'd use it when he traveled to gigs... sleep in the van, shower at the local PF. Worked like a champ for years. Traveled the country. Then his (out of state license expired), he couldn't get a new one because he had no address other than his girlfriend's , so when it came time to renew his Planet Fitness stuff... guess what, they wouldn't do it because his license had expired. Wtf is that about? Really? This is Planet Fitness' job... to enforce drivers licenses? Its ridiculous. I actually went to bat for the guy and sent PLNT's director of Investor Relations a scorching e-mail about it. He never got back to me.
So whatever. All these rules... and they get delegated down for compliance enforcement to idiots that have no ability to think critically and are programed as such... and as I said before... where the rubber meets the road, these rules are all ineffective and easily circumvented by the real people they were meant to stop.
Whaaaatever.
