The UN Veto and France

I do not understand why a country as insignificant as France has a veto in the UN? There are only about 50 to 100 million french people.

India, Japan, Turkey, Egypt are more populous and more significant than France.

Another problem with France is that it is using its veto privilege to make money in its relations with countries such as its old colonies from Africa.

So, shouldn't the UN cancel France's veto?
