Don't you "day-traders" or any kind of full-time (NOT part time, or people that trade as a second job) traders feel like your not accomplishing anything? I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I've assessed the whole "becoming a day trader" path and it just seems like there is no substance behind the job. Yes, it gives you freedom, you can work naked in your bedroom, etc... but even if you are immensely profitable what have you done for society? Buying and selling of a company/currency/future/etc for a quick profit, but what is the higher end result? If you are a day trader your whole life, what have you accomplished? What will people remember you for? If your a low level engineer, at least your building things, a doctor cures people, an investor helps a company grow, a hedge fund manager makes money for people, a janitor keeps place clean, a hit man kills people (at least it is something!)... What does a day trader do for society? Does this bother any of you? Maybe it doesn't matter. Just wondering how everyone else feels...

If one has to ask that question . . . one has no clue to personal happiness.

I trade full-time and love it more than anything. Maybe I'm being redundant here but trading is simply buying and selling merchandise. Doesn't matter what instrument you trade, in the end, it's all the same. From one person or company to another. Just supply and demand like running a store, gas station, burger joint, wholesaler, flower shop, prostitution, etc. Except no inventory hassles, no employees, .... a perfect business. If you can put forth the time and resources to making it a serious endeavor. Trading to me is as arbatrary as owning any other business. I also don't think there is any more risk to trading than any other business... unless you are stupid of course. People are perfectly willing to drop $125K to buy a subway franchise and all that really does is give you the build out, business plan and right to be in business. You haven't even made a cent yet but you have invested $125K.

Someone asking a question like that is either to young yet to have worked for someone else grinding it out everyday for rent money, someone whom has gotten frustrated with trading so much so that they are wanting someone to blame for there shortcomings or just some prick whom doesn't trade at all.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Good Day,

You make a number of assumptions about traders which reveal you are not one. In this case is quite frustrating reading stuff like this, as the view can at best be described as 'narrow'

For every example of 'enterprise', one could level the same argument. Are you therefore suggesting we all become doctors?. Where would the money come from to pay for that?

May I respectfully suggest that keep your bar room philosophy where it belongs. Unless of course you just want to try and make those of us who are actually good at this feel bad, in which case, I smay suggest you put your philosophy somewhere completely different.

I have been paper trading for awhile now and I usually listen to music or watch TV while trading and it never distracts me or any sort. I’m just wondering if you guys listen to any music or watch TV if your daytrading? I usually listen to Howard Stern to help me through the day, though I would really miss him soon. So anyway do you guys listen to music or watch TV while trading or what do you do to keep from being bored or stressed out? Eat? I’m just wondering also how many traders are getting ‘fat’ or gain weight from sitting on their office/computer all day long and doing nothing.
