Today, after another stellar time in marketannasurferland, i was fortunate to be invited to gabelli asset management's annual shareholders meeting by my friends michelle and alex. the event was held at the pierre hotel on 5th and 61st in manhattan. first class all the way, mario really knows how to throw a party. a multi-media extraganza focusing on the gabelli way of value investing. Several major CEO and politico types attended--steven bollenbach of hilton hotels and frank fahrenkopf presently of american gaming association and formely the chairman of the republican party. frank talked about the 2008 elections and why there are so many people running on both sides for us president--- reason being that this is the first time in many election cycles that the incumbent has not run thus freeing up resources that would normally be tied up with the incumbent, to allow others a shot at the office. i found this intriguing, we may actually get some real change in 2008 due to this fact.

now back to the market: mario focuses on CVRD, CSN and MMX(bovespa) with mentions of AAUX,MT,BHP,CLF,CSM,EVR,FMG,CMKS,RTP,CHMF(moscow), Tata(bombay),TKA(xetra), and WPSC.

mario spoke fielding questions about sprint, gold, and several other stocks. i was impressed with him, super smart and really seems on top of things.

regards,
surf

Surf,
I sent you the Lo MacKinlay paper, I think you’ll like it. Its good stuff – they find that stock prices don’t follow random walks. Keep in mind though that they aren’t using high frequency data (weekly) and that its outdated. Also, it’s an asset pricing paper, not a microstructure one so I don’t think their results are necessarily robust. Enjoy!

This is more down my alley:
