A couple theories come to mind:

1)Politicians are usually older dudes, married for decades to women who are roughly their own age. Perhaps many of these pol-wives were reasonably doable back in their prime.

2) Politicians get off on power, and devote their lives to obtaining it. A perfect ten will always be tougher to control/order around than a seven.
