People will give their own money to help someone who needs help.

When someone's money is taken from them to give to people who are scamming the system in addition to people who really need help, it will all eventually break down. It's only a matter of time. Just because it doesn't collapse in the first year doesn't mean it's not on a downward spiral. It took communism seventy years to implode.

You could, but there are some people who will never get out of welfare no matter what you do. They are still human beings, and we have an obligation (they do not have a right, mind you) to providing for those who are less fortunate IF we want to call ourselves an evolved society.

That doesn't mean we don't put significant gates on the welfare given out. Drug testing, food stamps (the original ones, not the EBT card), etc. Make it so people despise being on welfare. Weed out all those who are milking the system. Remove the ability to vote until the person is back on their own feet, etc.

I agree, it would be 1 thing if the woman legitimately needed it, but in her case she is clearly abusing the system, so i hope she gets hit by a fucking bus. The funny thing about the article is that the woman was somehow able to come up with the 1100 dollars she needed to get her water turned back on, so clearly she is lying about living in squalor too. And here is a picture of her leading her pack of freeloaders, apparently she isnt too disabled to start riots to get her free shit, but she is still too disabled to work, what a joke, and she is open to the media about it, she doesnt even have any shame.

The doofus beside her is holding a sign that says turn the water back on tax wallstreet, i would love for that ass hole to explain to me why someone living in new york is responsible for paying for his water.

No disclaimer necessary, old friend. I am well aware that my view is probably going to irk my fellow conservatives.

What I'm suggesting is that people like the permanently disabled you reference should be on welfare, but stringent rules to prevent those milking the system need to be put in place.

1. Mandatory drug testing on everyone who gets a dime from the government.
2. EBT cards replaced with the old food stamps - the ones that are embarrassing to use.
3. Loss of voting privileges while on the government $$ - to be restored once welfare is no longer used.
4. Quality of life inspections to assure that individuals are truly poor and don't have big screen tvs, nice cars, iphones, etc. You want those nice things? Go get a job and save up.

Stuff like that.

Nobody in America is going to "let anybody die" intentionally. But if my Grandfather* ran this show, social support would be "3 squares and a cot".... life in a community barracks. Stay/live there as long as you want or a long as you have to... society would be providing your basics. And that should be enough of a burden for society to bear. If you want better than that in your life, GET A JOB AND PAY FOR IT YOURSELF!

Don't discount that it can't happen. If we go broke - and I mean overtly broke - and can no longer pay our bills, some serious choices will have to be made. You see it in Greece.
