The Rise And Fall Of America

Just for the heck of it, this is a pretty good post on the subject by a very thoughtful blogger...

Sure looks like trading the Obama rally was a lot more fun than trading the Trump one, innit?
Thanks for the post, I thought this graph was very illuminating of my earlier points, that even using the flawed simplistic model of economics that the volpi's of the world have bounding around in their heads, their assertions are objectively false. I wonder if he's going to accuse some socialist egghead in an ivory tower of manufacturing those fake S&P 500 returns? Or will he be content to just continue rolling on the floor laughing at who knows what.

Calculated Risk is one of the best blogs on the US economy (and housing, in particular) out there... Moreover, it's reasonably light on opinion and focuses on tracking specific relevant bits of data. I am a huge fan.

And yes, I am really not sure which particular bits elicited the puzzling ROFLMAO reaction. Maybe we will never know the answer to that.

Yeah, thanks for sending down that rabbit hole; "wasted" an hour of my day today reading other posts after the one you sent! Definitely on my bookmarks now.

Well I was a military officer for 20+ years and have started 2 successful companies. So while I certainly don't claim to know everything about leadership (see my assertion that good leaders have humility in knowing what they don't know) I've certainly been a student of leadership for some time and have had the good fortune to get a lot of hands on experience. As for insights, I think I already provided those at least related to this conversation. A good leader knows their limitations, is humble in knowing what they don't know and to extend that knowing that there's a lot they don't know they don't know, and listens to subject matter experts. I'm not sure you'd find any successful leader outside the current POTUS who would disagree with that?
Probally General George Patton. Have a book autographed by his personal aide. Or had, until someone stole it when they stole my luggage after getting off the plane. "Grab em by the nose and give em a kick in the ass" .... "if you get shot fall forward and kill as many of the enemy as you can while falling before you die" ......"don't you die for your country..make the other poor SOB die for his"

What do you think? Good leadership qualities?

Looking back on recent US history there was one President who at the time seemed to have all the gifts of leadership. He looked good, sounded great but made a fatal mistake which subsequent leaders have endorsed without realizing circumstances have changed.
He was completely hopeless at Foreign Policy and got the US involved in Vietnam on the assumption that a country living in the stone age could not offer much resistance. How wrong he was.
Subsequent Presidents have spent shedloads of dollars on meddling in other country's affairs with not many positives to show for it. Trump thinks the answer is more expensive weapons. Is it ? I doubt it.
Perhaps you don't understand Mr T.

I try to calculate all my risk on trading..especially when scaling into a losing trade. So important!

There is safety in a multitude of counselors providing at least ONE knows what they are doing or what they are talking about. At least the odds favor that at least one will have the word for the hour or moment.

Interesting, I'm a military man myself. Do you have any advice on transitioning from military to civilian life? Particularly interested in any info regarding transitioning into a career in buisness/finance.

Remember Obama came into office on the heels of the Great Recession and these stats benefit from organic market rebound.
