Actually yes. Why should Israel be responsible for people who chose to flee Israel in order to allow/help the arab armies to drive the jews into the sea? And who is going to be responsible and compensate 900,000 jewish refugees and their descendants (about half of Israel's population) who were expelled from Arab countries in the 20th century and who were resettled in Israel without any assistance from the UN or any other international/refugee organization?Quote from 2cents:

now re the jewish refugees, that's a valid point, and similarly they should be allowed to return or be compensated fairly... i don't believe there is any opposition from the arab states to that... as for compensation and who pays i'd suggest the same as for the palestinian refugees:

seems to me there are ways israel could implement a right of return / fair buy out trade for instance, in a way which takes into account understandable Israeli demographic concerns, and puts an end to this disgrace and grave humanitarian problem of palestinian refugee camps
cost? 1) not much compared to the costs of war, military and security expenses etc... 2) even i would be happy to donate for a just settlement, think about it ;-) but more seriously i believe the Old Powers could & would pick up part of the tab if the US leads
benefits? 1) remove the teeth off a lot of extremism supporters, gradually empowering palestinians etc and incentivizing them to control their own 2) make open-air restaurants a bit safer around the world
i mean, we had the red brigades, the red army fraction, the IRA etc etc, still got the ETA but not as much... these things DID find a solution...

For the record I don't have a problem with some kind of a financial arrangement to compensate Palestinian (and hopefully jewish) refugees but the right of return is a non-starter for obvious demographic reasons. People advocating it just like people advocating a one state solution don't want peace in the middle east, they want Israel to be wiped off the map one way or another. And guess what, Israel does not give a shit about these fringe morons. Israel exists and will exist as a democratic jewish state, people like you with your absurd unrealistic views and positions simply prevent the creation of a palestinian state alongside Israel.

For the record the arabs had nothing to do with WWI nor WWII, nor with anti-semitism in Europe, therefore had precious little reason to sympathise with a plan forced upon them by the main culprits (Old Powers and colonists), and only made possible thanks to US financing and post WWII position of power. my suggestion is that sufficient compensation should be enough for most palestinians to waive their right of return and accept that the outcome is "fair enough". it doesn't seem to me that there would be much opposition to the right of return of jewish refugees... but am happy for you to prove me wrong
i don't want israel wiped off the map for that would be yet another humanitarian catastrophe and we've had more than enough of those, but the zionist regime and mindset, yes, and NOW if not yesterday! they and their blinkered US support are the main cause of escalation and radicalisation in the middle east, there is little doubt about that outside the US and Israel... and you can think what you want... while the body bags are piling up...
