The Rich pay more then their fair share in taxes.

Quote from Free Thinker:

... taxes should always come out of excess income over what a person needs to live on. otherwise you are taking subsistence away from people who need it to live which is immoral.
You have a link to where this is written in stone do you?

Quote from PiggyBank:

here we go with the fairness bullshit.

Freethinker, FAIR doesn't mean what you or Odumbo want it to mean, it is an unbiased way to describe something. FAIR would be a flat rate that EVERYONE pays. While it has been historically acceptable for the wealthy to pay higher taxes - it isn't FAIR, and it is dishonest to promote it as such.

so is it fair if a grandma scraping by on 9000 a year paid the same tax as someone who makes a million a year?

That sounds religious to me.

If by the same tax u mean the same %, then yup that would be fair by its very definition.

ET reminds me of how well "divide and conquer" is working. As a guy who couldn't care less about either political party, I find it amazing how every critique of the "status quo" turns into a new slogan for one of the parties. Granted, I'm cynical enough to realize that is how it will always work. The Tea Party turned into a party of "racists and extremists" according to the left. Those who wanted to end the cronyism between the Fed and Wall Street became a bunch of dirty hippy socialists and were adopted by factions of the Democratic party.

There is literally no possible way to have an honest debate about anything that ails this country since the media will distort the message to the nth degree.

It's hopeless.

Its probably written on the wall right above the glory hole that free thinker services at his local truck stop.....

You still hold the best thread title in ET history...

"Atheist truck driver...."

actually the most moral system is a system which increases the welfare of as many people as possible.

Let us compare examples of communism vs America. Which system is more fair or more just based on historical examples, not utopian ideals.

At some point it may become fair to tax the business entities which earn money in order to provide for the infrastructure which supports such activity.

But, if you are taxing the businesses in a fair manner which allows them to grow and provide for the welfare of the people who work them, I question whether it is ever fair or constitutional to tax a persons wages.

I suggest the fair way for a govt to fund itself is through tariffs and property taxes. Oddly that is what the founders of America thought as well. You might argue a VAT might replace a tariff.

But the point is why would it ever be fair to tax a mans wages if your system is set up to provide opportunity for all.

Now, it is also righteous to provide for those who can not care for themselves. O.K. lets do that out of charity and the VAT... but not out of stealing a mans wages.

The most fair and moral system is a system of opportunity not theft and arbitrary redistribution.
