I wonder, what would happen if we nuked france ? Would the price of cheese go up ?

of course i'm joking, but i'm sure a lot of americans are wondering why the france are so stupid while they sit around saying how stupid americans are. Certainly there is no reason to defend france and germany when they won't even defend Turkey which isn't that far away from them. They have been so short sighted that they have destroyed NATO, which quite probably kept them from being obliterated. I think at the very least we should pull all troops out of France and Germany and kick their sorry asses out of NATO for good. They are not worth anything as allies, so why pretend.

The Germans and - much more subtly - the French have been desperately trying to stop America's and Britain's war against Saddam. Their reasons may be sound or even honourable, but the effect is the opposite of intelligent statecraft.

Both France and Germany subscribe to the goal, enshrined in 17 UN resolutions, of disarming Saddam. Yet how could the rupture of a common Western front serve this purpose? Indeed, war avoidance, which Paris and Berlin so desperately seek, will be served far better by increasing, not by reducing, the pressure on Saddam.

This duo, plus Belgium, have arrayed themselves on the side of Saddam. They give him hope against hope - that, somehow, he will be able to escape from the UN siege with his capacity for making weapons of mass destruction essentially untouched. Not a smart move.

This is a gamble the German chancellor may well lose. Unlike Mr Schröder, Mr Chirac and Mr Putin have not tied their hands; indeed, the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is well on its way toward the Middle East. In the end, neither France nor Russia will risk their American connection, let alone a seat at the table where the post-war fate of Iraq will be thrashed out.

Germany as the odd man out? This must be the nightmare now wafting through the chancellor's office.

Reckless Administration May Reap Disastrous Consequences

`In foreign policy, this Administration has failed to find Osama bin Laden. In fact, just yesterday we heard from him again marshaling his forces and urging them to kill. This Administration has split traditional alliances, possibly crippling, for all time, International order-keeping entities like the United Nations and NATO. This Administration has called into question the traditional worldwide perception of the United States as well-intentioned, peacekeeper. This Administration has turned the patient art of diplomacy into threats, labeling, and name calling of the sort that reflects quite poorly on the intelligence and sensitivity of our leaders, and which will have consequences for years to come.

Calling heads of state pygmies, labeling whole countries as evil, denigrating powerful European allies as irrelevant -- these types of crude insensitivities can do our great nation no good. We may have massive military might, but we cannot fight a global war on terrorism alone. We need the cooperation and friendship of our time-honored allies as well as the newer found friends whom we can attract with our wealth. Our awesome military machine will do us little good if we suffer another devastating attack on our homeland which severely damages our economy. Our military manpower is already stretched thin and we will need the augmenting support of those nations who can supply troop strength, not just sign letters cheering us on.´
 
Europeans don't want to take part in this war, moron. This is your fucking war, we don't want to send our people to Turkey to clean up the mess you are going to make there. NATO and UN forces always need to be sent after you made a mess and your GI's are gone in the Balkans in Afghanistan and now in Turkey ?
Wait a minute! Do you really think we are gonna say Amen and go along without thinking about the consequences? hey we are not brainwashed like you!

France has already kicked out all US troops in 1966, and Germany probably wouldn´t mind if Rumsfeld moved the US armed forces out of `old Europe´eastward to the `center of gravity in new Europe´, somewhere between Lithuania and Albania.

Clean up what mess?

After the Gulf War of 10 years ago, the coalition partners all dropped out except for the US and Britain, whose armed forces remained to this day to check Saddam. What did the French, Russian and Germans do after the Gulf War? They signed $20 billion worth of oil contracts with Saddam. Thus their current opposition.

No one wants a war, but you are the only guys who want Saddam to remain in place.

Some U.S. lawmakers want to ban French water, wine and move troops from Germany

WASHINGTON - Some members of Congress are suggesting the United States impose trade sanctions on France and withdraw U.S. troops from Germany to retaliate for opposition to U.S. policies on Iraq, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has told associates he would like to target bottled French mineral water and wine, the paper said.


"France and Germany are losing credibility by the day and they are, I think, losing status in the world," the Post quoted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay as saying. "They are walking a fine line that is very dangerous."


Hastert has instructed Republican colleagues to determine whether Congress should pass laws that would new impose health standards on bottles of Evian and other French waters, the paper said.


According to the Beverage Marketing Corporation, a U.S. research firm France is the leading exporter of water to the United States and sold 65 million gallons (147 million liters) in 2001.


The Post said the speaker also is exploring whether the United States should require "bright orange warning labels" on French wines that are clarified with bovine blood.


"People should know how the French make their wine, " the Post quoted Hastert spokesman John Feehery as saying.


Two U.S. wine experts contacted by the newspaper, said a few French wine growers used bovine blood as a clarifier before the process was banned in the late 1990s after the "made cow disease" scare.


There is growing momentum in Congress to move many of the 71,455 U.S. troops from Germany, the Post said.


Marine Gen. James Jones the U.S. commander in Europe, recently briefed lawmakers on a plan to change the U.S. military presence in Europe by moving troops out of Germany to make them less reliant on bases in Germany and more flexible, the newspaper quoted White House and congressional officials as saying.


House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter said French and German attitudes toward U.S. policy in Iraq will make the modernization plan easier to sell to lawmakers, the newspaper quoted him as saying.


A bipartisan group of senators announced plans Tuesday to introduce a resolution thanking 18 European nations for standing with the United States_ and against France and Germany.
