I disagree. If every pol who took favors from a constituent and then promoted the constituent's business went to jail, we'd have to build a lot of new jails.
This was about taking down a promising republican, just like the Perry suit and just like they went after Palin.
What about the Clintons? Hillary's miraculous cattle futures trading? That all legit, right DB?
Corruption should be prosecuted, but there is a line between politics and corruption, and in this case I didn't see it crossed.

I disagree. After reading a summary of the case the line was completely crossed by McDonnell and his wife. The corruption conviction was well-deserved. Also for a "family values" guy, I liked how he tried to throw his wife under the bus to avoid being convicted.
Sorry, AAA. A criminal is a criminal. We don't make shades of grey simply because of occupation. I will concede that the targeting of this individual was because he was promising, but he's guilty nonetheless. I also agree you'll not see anything from the left on Hillary or any other corrupt democrat. Hell, Charlie Rangel is still in congress.
I don't know how closely you followed it but I didn't see the quid pro quo. Ina vase like this the prosecution tries to poison the jury through playing up all the gifts etc, which at the end of the day, weren't all that much. Not when we are talking about what the clintons get. What about chelsea's "jobs?" She got paid $600 large to be basically an intern. Same deal for everyone , right?
For a crorruption conviction, it' snpt enough to show inappropriate or sleazy behavior, which in my view was all they showed. They were never any proff that McDonnell was paid to promote this guy's business.
Some of you are awfully naive. Are you going to prosecute every member of congress who gets a campaign contribution then does something for the contributor, because that's basically what this was.
Don't see it the same way as you, sorry. The trial has yet to run, and it is possible he'll have some excuse for what he did, but he apparently knows the gig is up because he's tacking it onto his wife.
A corrupt politician needs to be taken out, regardless of what party he/she sits in.
