There's not a shred of doubt in my mind that Ayn Rand would have unquestionably & unambiguously condemned ANY grown man who fucks ANY ten year old child, period, regardless of the circumstances. (Even if she's 'kinda mature for her age'.) This is in no way a 'collectivist' statement.

I know what it means to me...I don't care what it means to you or others.

I don't know what Ayn Rand would have done or not, I don't worship what she says or thinks. She was a freak in my opinion, and I have little doubt that she did whatever she wanted and rationalized it as good...

I find her, and her followers mostly narcissistic types who try to rationalize their selfishness in her blithering and banal sophomoric philosophy...

My point in this thread goes to those who judge other cultures by their own standards and own culture (which is evolving...and thus not absolute), when their own culture is filled with corruption.

When we have perfected our own culture, when we have taken care of our own children and made them safe from all harm, including poor nutrition, abuse of any kind, poor education, poor parenting, poor preparation for success in life, etc. then we can spend time looking to the religions, cultures, etc. of other countries.

The application of the Golden Rule would keep children safe under all reasonable conditions.

Do I think the Muslim world applies the golden rule to their lives and the treatment of their fellow man and woman?

No.

But I do not think the Christian or Jewish world does either...

BTW, in Afghanistan there is a subculture where middle-aged men take young boys for sexual partners and it's a source of pride to have a "boy toy". They dote on thier "twinks", (as they are called here in the US), with money and gifts. The "twinks" are usually late-teens to early twenties. I don't know what happens to them when they hit their late 20's and their sugar daddy throws them out. I doubt they have many job skills.

Since when are the behaviours and beliefs of total strangers defined as "my culture" or anyone else's? Culture depends on the individual, not a bunch of people they've never met. I judge people based on their actions - I couldn't care less what someone says their "culture" is, it's irrelevant.

The Golden Rule is a joke. It's quite easy to formulate principles which follow the golden rule but which 99% of humanity, including yourself, would be horrified to see put into action.

Yes, but all morality is arbitrary anyway - there is no metaphysical or logical proof or justification of morality. It exists purely for reasons of evolutionary fitness - not because it is objectively "right", but because groups that co-operate survived better in the past than groups of entirely selfish animals/humans. Thus morality is just an animal instinct, a bit like the urge to eat, drink, fight for territory, and have sex.

The golden rule is a pathetic attempt to deny reality and substitute in its place a laughable illusion that morality comes from reason, intelligence, and the higher emotions, when all the evidence shows that morality comes from a purely selfish group survival instinct bred via natural selection. Look at how morality breaks down in wars, famines, extreme poverty, prisons or other survival situations - I don't see much of the golden rule there, do you? I don't know a single person who lives their life according to this golden rule - everyone is a hypocrite. Then again, Kant never got in a fight or suffered threats to his life, so what would he know about all this, he's just another ivory tower type using a great intellect to rationalize his prejudices rather than seek the truth.
