Yea. Someone who lives with a subgroup is eminently more qualified to speak with authority on that groups actions then one who relies on media interpretations or Disney movies.

The same way that I carefully listen to non-Muslims who live in Islamic countries. Their experiences (not all are bad) are more insightful than "textbook" revelations.

No I don't just know "some" black people, I've known thousands of black people. I've stated here several times it's all statistics. Perhaps 20% of the whites I know are pricks-Blacks? At least 40%. No prejudice just a factual observation. Not any different than saying stocks are lower today.

And yes I could have afforded to live anywhere I wanted. (not any more, lol) I purposely didn't want the stigma of moving to some all white suburb. I'm city through and through.

OK, I see.

But I am still faced with the same difficulties that beset every mixed-race / african-male in this country. Difficulties which have not been resolved by my education, work ethic or luck (luck is always factor in human endeavors, both good and bad).

So if you guys say that "education" is the panacea for what ails this culture, I would have to agree with you ... education of the ignorant.

when blacks kill more blacks than any other race; then education is your only way out as a whole....it offers opportunities to expand what limits are set by society....

an example i use when saying education is the route...not only education in school, but of values which starts at home....

my example is HIP HOP weekend on south beach every year....I'm sorry if you want to call me a racist; even the store owners, bar owners which make more money that weekend then other regular weekend shutter in their knees when this weekend draws upon them.... they have to triple the police force... why?? why is it so chaotic? lets analyse this for one second ...peace

I misunderstood you, not your fault. I do now understand your "societal" comment. I need to think about this from a personal perspective.
 
Interesting tread ... more about how Blacks are idiots then about the problems with education in America.

My personal experience is that kids of all races are quite capable of wasting their eduction opporunities. Why pick out one particular race???

Problems with the American educational system in my opinion ...

Lack on involvement by parents. Issues include lazy parents, single parent families, both parents workings, and parents that lack the education to help their childern with their education. Some of these issues can be layed at the feet of parents and some are part of what America's culture has become.

Good quality teachers. Unions and goverment lack of efficiency are part of the problem, but IMHO another issue has a much bigger effect on this issue. The ability of women to participate in many more job fields today. The 'glass ceiling" that kept many American women out of most jobs for most of the 19th and 20th centuries ... also kept most of the brightest and best women in just a couple of fields. Teaching and nursing come to mind. Now many of these same women choose all types of careers ... to their benfit but to the determent of the teaching profession.

Everybody wants everything this minute. Education is a slow, blobk by block process, that takes many 12 to 16 years to complete. In our instant grafication society the concept that a person will be rewarded for 12 years of work, much less 2 weeks of effort (like a paycheck), just seems to be beyond the comprehension of many adults and childern.

How to fix it ...
I've given it a lot of thought, and I'm still not sure there is an answer ... at least not even a half way easy one. More people having an interest would help ... but then they would hopefully be the same parents that had an interest in their own childerns education.
