well back to the topic.........
I think it was platypus that said something like "so there was some special event yesterday that I didn't know about?". I think the event was really just the drop itself. Basically I think they are just trying to smooth out the drops on the daily charts and to strike a little fear into the shorts on occasion. They know that they can't prop up the markets on a long term basis, but they definitely can and DID make things look a whole lot better on the daily charts and on the evening news. If you are a politician or if you do retail brokerage business, then appearances are very important.

if they can inspire enough confidence in longs or enough fear in shorts then I guess it works. I just wish I knew when they were going to step in. Surely there are people that know and are making a lot of money.

With all due respect you assume too much. I had one of my best days of the year yesterday participating on both sides of the action. And as I said in my post I usually do not look too deep into the nature of moves because quite frankly I could care less the causality BUT that move yesterday simply did not feel right to me, I have found over the years that my belly is much much more intelligent than my brain, so I will go with my intuitive artificial insemination theory
