The price of populism in the republican party

Doesn't fly AAA.

I hear the same excuse of "oh it was only a joke" or "it was only sarcasm" constantly from the right, when it fact it is a particular brand of specific slimy rhetoric made popular by Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Levin, etc.

It is in fact an attack, a "poor me" false victim method that when called on suddenly becomes "just a joke" etc. It is not a good spirited laughing at one selves' own flaws while laughing at others. It is divisive in nature, and not intended to bring laughter to others. It is insidious, as the direct attack is made, then pawned off as not really an attack.

Reminds me of Coulter who after spewing venom and is called on it, rolls her eyes and twirls her hair playing dumb as if to say "I am only a girl don't blame me."

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

It's called sarcasm, ZZZ.

Sold through imagery, indeed...

It is called projection onto something or someone which is not really there...

If it weren't for the fact that Palin is as ambitious and driven for power as any other politician, I would feel somewhat sorry for her being heralded as the new messiah, but this idea is really nothing new.

So Palin is the new "Being There" girl from the right wing...

Quote from Pa(b)st Prime:

As usual only AAA understands the nuanced struggle between message and elective politics. The same leftists defending Obama's Chavezesque appeal to Third World America as the successful bridge between economic populism and intellectualism are the first to fault Palin's almost carnal adulation from blue-collar whites.

Palin is the first national candidate since Reagan to push the buttons of Middle-America. Many of them next month won't vote for her but you best believe a solid quarter of Obama voters will bitterly regret their choice six months from now. They'll quickly seize a new demagogue.

End of day it's a culture war with secessionist under tones. World markets are turning the Democrats upside down. In three weeks they win the battle but lose the war. Federalism is over. 41 different states are in a degree of fiscal trouble. Municipalities, school systems and pensions are teetering. At a time when the Federal government is 10 trillion in debt, half the worlds paper wealth has just imploded along with it's corresponding tax base. With virtually every Central Government simultaneously borrowing to bailout banks their banks it's quite possible that there isn't enough global liquidity. Obama and the Democrats will be forced to either create the biggest increase in money supply in U.S. history or the Treasury could fail.

Palin will lead the charge from the outside. When the purchasing power of a 2010 dollar resembles the Argentinian Peso and there's 14% unemployment how keen do you think Texas is going to be on supporting big budget Obama programs? Weirdly Palin is 10x the revolutionary Obama fancies himself and that's why every utterance of hers is nervously studied by the Left. Ideas are sold through imagery.....

Pabst I respect your idealism. As far as I can see, non of Palins comments so far could be studied. However its amazing to me that even after everything thats happened. The spending, the deregulation and where our country is right now...you still cling to your ideals. Once again I respect them, but you couldn't be much more wrong.

In no way is Pabst an idealist, unless you include his near worship of Hitler as an act of idealism.

If Pabst were a supporter of Ron Paul, perhaps the title of idealist would fit, but his republicans have been just as complicit as the dems in creation of the problems.

Sarah Palin is no Ron Paul, not by a long shot.

She is a stooge, which is the type of leadership that these false republicans like, because they know that they can be manipulated.

Of course he is, he is constantly advocating what he thinks Gov. should be and he probably believes it. Right now, it just happens to be way off. There is nothing that you could say, or that could happen that would stop him from voting conservative. Nothing. Thats idealism at its finest.

So you are in the camp with Pabst that thinks Hitler was an idealist?

No, it is not idealism...

It is fanaticism, or twisted self serving pragmatism. Fanaticism of the style preached by Pabst is nearly a polar opposite to genuine idealism.

Absolutely Hitler was an idealist. I'm not sure why you think that fanaticism and idealism are mutually exclusive. In fact, I would guess a large percentage of idealists are fanatic.

Fallacious, non-sequitur and straw man wrapped into one.

Fanaticism is used as a tactic. It can be used for a myriad of noble or less than noble pursuits. Scientists fanatically try to eliminate disease. Idealistic, no? Hitler too was an idealist. His ideal of a united Germany just didn't happen to include Communists and their fellow travelers. A human disease. Too funny that Americans who had no problem killing millions of German civilians in the same war think Hitler was Satan. Yea, FDR was Christ. Whatever.

Most factory workers if given the choice would rather work in Stuttgart than Kiev......

Here is a pretty good explanation:

Quick definitions (idealism)

▸ noun: impracticality by virtue of thinking of things in their ideal form rather than as they really are
▸ noun: (philosophy) the philosophical theory that ideas are the only reality
▸ noun: elevated ideals or conduct; the quality of believing that ideals should be pursued

Make no mistake, it is not idealism working for Pabst, it is not on the basis of some ideally derived high minded intellectual concept.

It is an inner desire to return to a white male dominated time in American history, and to do so via very fascist pragmatic means.

Pabst in no way is saying "I have a dream..."

He is just an angry aging white male who is seeing changes he doesn't like and wants to return to a world and a time that was ideal for very few, and very harsh for most.

Hitler's "ideal" of a master race and final solution, which you adore, are not borne of any great intellectual processes.

To portray Hitler as an idealist is to portray anyone so driven by their own self interest, hatred of others and need for ego gratification with a lust for power over others that they would trample over anyone and anything in that pursuit.

Quick definitions (fanaticism)

▸ noun: excessive intolerance of opposing views

That fits you to a T...

Being intolerant is not an ideal, it is a mental defect of character...and practicing that ideal is not idealism, but fascism.
