Colombia’s independence from Spain didn’t bring the revolution many hoped for. While the colony was freed from foreign rule, the powerful local families seamlessly took the reins, maintaining the same systems of control that the Spanish Empire used to dominate the country.
So they are an independent people who have the much the same obsequios but also obstructive habits as people under colonial rule. It's like trying to get a wish that does not backfire from a genie most times you involve a Colombian in a project.
