The Opening Orders Thread

1 long fill for a modest win, +77, 2000 shares.

A little hasty on the exit in hindsight, but I try not to push my luck on longs given an up open and a slumping market post open.

My exits are manual as well.

Don,

Since you brought up your automated account, would you be willing to share the exit and money management aspect of it?

I think we all know that "price improvement" can work both ways and it seems like using stops in a total automation mode would get you a lot of horrible slippage on the "money management" side of the equation.

you profit per unit is impressive...

will you scaling up soon?

Every day I figure out how much I would have made if I was trading 1000 or 2000 shares per symbol..LOL.

I'll be scaling up slowly, but I'm not yet comfortable with my exits. This week i had a few positions go $150-200 against me before it hit my profit target. That's on only $15-20K in shares per symbol. I want to add more symbols too so as not to be too heavily weighted in one position.

I have all automated entries, and when filled, my program sends in a retracement order for half the number of shares within 2 seconds to catch the "slingshot" effect. I then manually tape-read out of the rest.

Probably a tough comparison, but do you think your fully automated account performs better than the other?

Started out with .2 envelope on sells, no buy orders. Then adjusted manually from there.
Had all kinds of problems...did the best I could on 3 fills short GE HD & T & ended up slightly green after commish. Kind of a let-down for year-end expiration.

Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday :)
PS - I'll be here for the open on Monday

You're right, tough comparison...a lot "coulda done betters" on both it seems, LOL.

OK, today Goldman has a bunch of problems pre-open, got them fixed just in time for opening, but positions were a little off.

6 fills +$1040.

If you don't trade Monday, have a Great Christmas. I actually like those half day, Holiday days. So I'll probably come in.

Don :)

I was a bit disappointed when my stocks were opening up and I was getting no fills, then a few opened a little late that I got filled on.

4 short wins, +321, 6100 shares

Again not as productive as I would have liked given expiration, but you take what you get.

Merry Christmas to those not trading Monday; I'll be in, trying to pay for this weekend's shopping spree and my Steeler playoff tickets :D
