The Opening Orders Thread

anvil - if you have a lot of stocks on your list & you used .2 envelope for buys today, it's possible that you got a lot of fills when others didn't get any or only a few.
I used .33 buy envelope today plus I have only a small list of stocks...so no fills today.
Last week I noticed chi got a lot of fills a couple of days & I got none, so same thing...it's just a matter of how each person does it, not necessarily that you made a mistake.

La estrategia funciona bien, simplemente pasando por una fase.

I know everyone thinks I'm proponent of this strategy, and I am. I have noticed something different the last couple of months as well...but not as dire as some may think. What I'm noticing is that some of the "old guard" guys who have doing this for a long time, constantly tweaking their programs, etc. are not doing as well. But at the same time I'm noticing many of our newer people (6mo.-1.5 yr) types doing better than ever.

I don't know what to make of this, perhaps the "blind" following of basics might have something to do with it, and perhaps the "old guard" is just expecting to make more.

Personally, my win loss ratio is about the same (admittedly I am only doing 2000 shares, and have cut back to 25 stocks).

FWIW,

Don

The HL Camp website programtrading.com has been down for the last two days. I wonder if they closed up shop.

Not sure, I'll try calling Hank later today.

Our IP was down for two days a couple of months ago, and everyone wondered the same thing about us, LOL.

4 long / 2 short / - 335.00

stung on cof...-971.00...otherwise it would have been a good day

What do you think changed? If there is no more specialist then there is no more "being on the same side as specialist".

It just a technical strategy now, ie filling the gap. So pretty much a directional strategy. The end for this strategy is near. The people who can predict the market will do well the ones that can't will not do so good.

Specialists still manage all the openings that are "away" from the previous closing price by xx amount, and those are the only ones we really care about. Whoever "accomodates" we want to be on that side.

I've never viewed this strategy as anything other than that. Just an odds-based move from a theoretical mis-pricing. I don't know nor care if there is a specialist involved in the trade.

As someone who's been trading this strategy daily for going on 6 years now, I agree that it has changed and is definitely tougher. I've been spinning my wheels for a couple months now.

I don't disagree with either of you, it's just that we learned trading in different decades and I remember when I would get actual messages from the Specialist posts asking for help on one side or the other. We are just playing the exaggerated opening price, with or without a human involved, it just means that the Specialist will be involved in these exaggerated openings.

The single place market is the important part, gotta have a place to put all the orders.

All the best,

Don
