I usually add some extra stocks on expiration day but I forgot to today.
2 fills long GE & TYC for 2 small wins
I'm finding it almost impossible to catch the quick move to cover at a good profit with this hybrid volatility. 4 days in a row this week this has happened with 1 stock or another. I get a covering order in within 5-8 seconds of being filled & I miss the prints & have to wait a little & then cover at a lesser profit.
I've been using mostly ARCA to cover to get the liquidity rebate, but next week I am going to try covering half on NYSE to see if I can get that quick move on the cover for the better profit.
Anyone else seeing this and/or have any other ideas ?? chiguy - I think we both missed on HD earlier in the week...he spiked up 25 cents & I could not get it...had to settle for much less. Today was GE same thing.

1 long win, +155 on 2000 shares
I'm finding that a good many of those quick spike moves are on next to no volume - 30 cent moves in a couple seconds on 500-1500 shares. I'm guessing that getting your order in quicker would prevent those prints from occurring anyway. I've been holding on for a bit longer and not chasing the market trying to close. You just get hybridded when you do that. Same with trying to exit by crossing an order 5 or 10 cents. You can get brutalized. If my trade is in the money, I let it age a bit.
Are you using a hotkey based system? I nailed that MMM spike down this morning immediately after the open and covered some. I'm seeing this reguarly,but you have to be very fast. If you are point and clicking with a mouse, you are behind your competition.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad others are seeing the same thing with that quick move.
lescor...was that price improvement on the mmm cover....nice trade Are you & others seeing any price improvement when covering OPG trades ?? I have gotten it a few times with hybrid.
I do have hotkeys setup for arca & inet, & even if I set them up for nyse I'm sure I'm still too slow (getting old LOL), especially if not a lot of stock is printing there. In addition, since I've been covering on ARCA, it may be that the quick large move prints only on NYSE & not ARCA.
I'm going to try for half of the cover on NYSE, half on arca & whatever I miss try holding a little longer for a few cents more. If you can catch those moves on NYSE, it more than makes up for the ARCA liquidity rebate.
