The Obamacare debacle

Quote from Max E. Pad:

Show me one exampe where i sang the praises of a company for cutting peoples wages and healthcare.

Criticising obama because his policies are forcing companies to cut insurance/hours is not the same as praising them for doing so, it is merely pointing out reality, a reality that those on the left refused to accept, as they promised everyone that these companies were simply going to take it on the chin with no reprecussions as obamacare was implemented.
Fair enough, but you're actually smearing Starbucks, which is worse. It's sour grapes: "well, if Starbucks is not going to cut FTEs, who cares, they're no good anyway."

Show me where I said NO companies would cut FTEs as a result of Obamacare. The reality is that the vast majority of companies, which really have little news to share either way, are not cutting FTEs as a result of Obamacare. We're not, not in Utah, Wyoming, Texas, Colorado, or Pennsylvania. You guys seize on a handful, from tens of thousands.

Bullshit, ive been talking about starbucks long before obamacare came along, and it was all because of what i mentioned here, the clowns who drive their 60k prius into starbucks, for a 5 dollar coffee and look down on people as if they are the ones who are making a difference.

I can assure you i smeared starbucks long before obamacare.

And dont pretend starbucks is simply absorbing the cost of obamacare, they simply planned ahead, and passed the cost off to the consumer, cause they know with their model, where they are viewed as the ethical coffee company for some reason by lefties, they would have been dead if they put out a memo saying they were cutting peoples insurance.

I dont have a problem i say kudos for running a good company, and duping people into believing they actually give a shit, i just dont understand how liberals fall for it.

Starbucks To Raise Prices Even As Coffee Prices Fall

NEW YORK -- Starbucks wants a little extra change for that latte.

The Seattle-based coffee company says it's hiking prices on average by 1 percent nationally starting on Tuesday. But it says the price for many drinks, such as medium and large brewed coffees and Frappuccinos, won't change in most its 11,000 U.S. cafes.

For a small brewed coffee, the price will increase by 10 cents at most. Other drinks could increase by more than that.

"Less than a third of beverages will see a small increase in most stores," said Lisa Passe, a Starbucks spokeswoman. She noted that the increases will vary by region and may apply to different drinks.

Depending on the market, Starbucks Corp. notes it's the first price hike most customers will see in about two years.

The price hike comes despite falling coffee costs that have boosted the company's profits. In the last quarter, Starbucks cited lower coffee costs for a stronger operating margin, which represents the money it pockets from sales after subtracting what it pays to keep stores running.

And those lower coffee costs are expected to continue padding its bottom line.

Earlier this month, a Janney Montgomery Scott analyst issued a note to investors saying Starbucks is likely to benefit from lower coffee costs for the next few years. Based on the price of a coffee contract at the time, Mark Kalinowski estimated that Starbucks would pay about half the $1.4 billion it did for coffee in 2012.

But Starbucks notes that coffee represents just one of its many costs and historically has accounted for less than 10 percent of overall store expenses.

Passe said other expenses include rent, labor, marketing, equipment and other ingredients such as milk and sugar.

If starbucks eats the costs associated with Obamacare, it will because they realize their healthcare plan is the bait which brings employees who may stick around for a while as they are underpaid.

In marxist terms... and this is for you ricter... its a very smart way to exploit workers with a low overall compensation scheme. ... and reap profits for the owners.

(for non marxist like me, I think it is pretty smart compensation scheme and therefore anyone smart enough to underpay workers and have them smile at the same time... is unlikely to be telling the public his real thoughts on obamacare and its associated costs.)

Starbucks CEO: We won't cut benefits because of Obamacare
By Jose Pagliery @Jose_Pagliery August 27, 2013: 12:17 PM ET

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney)
"Starbucks' CEO acknowledged that Obamacare might increase insurance costs, but said the company's benefits are non-negotiable.

"While other U.S. companies have cut staff or benefits in anticipation of next year's health care overhaul, Howard Schultz said Starbucks (SBUX, Fortune 500)' insurance plans will stay in place -- for everyone.

"It's not about the law. It's about responsibility we have to the people who do work and who represent us," Schultz told CNN on Tuesday.

"The coffee chain is unique in its policy: Even part-time workers are eligible for insurance. In 2010, benefits cost the company $300 million, more than it paid for coffee.

"But Schultz said the benefits will remain a cornerstone of the company's compensation for its 160,000 employees, even though it could be more expensive next year due to Obamacare's "unintended consequences."

"It may end up costing us more... but I don't think that is the primary issue," Schultz said. "Starbucks does not want to leave people behind."

"His comments put him in stark contrast with other business owners, who have taken drastic measures to reduce costs next year.

"Last week, UPS (UPS, Fortune 500) said it will cut insurance to 15,000 workers' spouses. Last year, pizza franchise Papa John's (PZZA) announced plans to cut workers' hours in order to dodge the employer mandate.

"I don't believe that...the health care law should be a reason or a motivation to cut benefits for either the employee or spouses," Schultz said. "An investment in your people is an investment in shareholder value."

"Over the years, Schultz's commitment to employee benefits has been unwavering. Even when Starbucks took cost-cutting measures like shutting down stores and laying off employees, health care benefits -- which also include dental and vision -- have remained intact."

Admittedly, the margin looks pretty good for a Starbucks franchise.

Why on earth are they not self insuring? $300,000,000 for 160,000 employees comes out to $1875 per. Most of their workers are young and healthy, so they can't be using that much in actual HC costs.

IOW, your post made too much sense for the "commie dog" to reply in kind.

It is a shame that this thread degenerated into a discussion of Starbucks from my focus on Obamacare.

Anyone reading this who is self-employed with a decent income, and is in their 30s, 40s or 50s, is about to get a major royal screwing with your health insurance premiums.

Ricter the marxist posted the article that started the divergence.

I am self employed... and I am concerned.

Heaven forbid they should compete for workers by bidding more than their competition.
