When was the last time Congress created useful legislation not purchased by special interests? Or, that did not increase the taxes or medical insurance costs many of us have to pay?

Its best to leave those sell outs alone and vote for gridlock.
They have done almost nothing good since Reagan.

Sorry, I just saw this question to me. I did not intentionally ignore it.

I do not believe the NRA has anything to do with the circulation of firearms on the street, no. The NRA encourages individuals to protect themselves, which may increase the potential for individuals who feel that they need to protect themselves purchasing a firearm. But saying the NRA is responsible for people buying a firearm is a bit like blaming McDonald's for people who eat fast food - though even that analogy isn't entirely correct because there are no NRA stores that sell guns.

The NRA does, however, greatly influence firearm legislation through a very powerful lobbying force. But then there are lobbies for many things that no one complains about. The Sugar Lobby, for example, or the Defense Lobby...both result in legislation that pushes behavior in the end.

It would very much depend on how the screening is done and who controlled it, otherwise it could be abused and used to prevent an otherwise legal individual from acquiring a gun simply because of something other than mental health.

But on the whole, my general answer to your question would be "yes".
